The Inheritance Trilogy

The story

A New Yorker inherits a Welsh manor built on an ancient stone circle, and learns his bloodline makes him part of a 2,000-year-old secret order whose enemies have already started killing.

Josh MacMaddock never cared where his family came from. Then gunmen try to kill him on a Manhattan street, his girlfriend dies under a subway train in a second attack, and a cream envelope arrives from Britain: he has inherited an estate on Anglesey, once the beating heart of the Druids.

The house comes with conditions, a chapel built from ancient stones, and a past that won’t stay buried. Strange deaths. Visions of a battle fought two thousand years ago. And a growing certainty that the deaths in New York were no accident.

What Josh has inherited isn’t just a house. It’s a place in a mission as old as the standing stones, and the enemies that come with it.

Who Do You Think You Are?

Book 2

Kindred Spirits

A series of incidents centred on the chapel leads to a startling revelation: it stands on the site of an ancient Druidic stone circle, an intersection of ley lines reawakened after centuries of dormancy by oil drilling in the nearby Irish Sea.

The truth behind the fiction

Real history, real legend

The fall of the Druids

In AD 61 (some historians say AD 60) the Roman governor Suetonius Paulinus crossed the Menai Strait to destroy the Druids on Anglesey. The Roman historian Tacitus described black-robed women and Druids calling down curses from the shore.

Samhain

The Celtic festival at summer’s end, when the boundary between this world and the Otherworld was believed to grow thin. It lives on today as Halloween.

Prince Madoc

Welsh legend tells of Madoc ab Owain Gwynedd, who sailed west in 1170 and reached America. Later travellers reported Welsh-speaking peoples on the Missouri.

John Dee’s mirror

Elizabeth I’s astrologer used an Aztec mirror of polished obsidian to speak with spirits. It survives today in the British Museum.

Ley lines

In 1921 Alfred Watkins noticed ancient sites falling into straight lines across the landscape. Some believe they trace currents of earth energy.
